We kick off the first Ag Squawk AM with a quick, no-fluff rundown of grains, livestock, and weather as markets start the week lower. We also flag the crop-report risk ahead and explain why Iran-related headlines can whip oil and spill over into ag volatility.
• Grain futures snapshot for soybeans, corn, and wheat as prices open down
• Livestock check-in, including the hog and pig report, and softer cattle markets
• Corn Belt weather focus with storm chances in the Northwest and dry time in the Southeast
• Why too much rain can erase yield even when “rain makes grain”
• Crop report timing and how USDA numbers can spark big market swings
• Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, and why headline shifts can move oil fast
• Key economic calendar items like export inspections and crop progress

Welcome And What This Show Is
SPEAKER_00We're going to keep these shows short, simple, and easy to digest to get you your basic info to get your day started. We have some interesting things to talk about with the crop report coming up. Iran is up to their shenanigans again. Let's go ahead and roll the intro. Well, let's go ahead and quote the market on the grain sides to start off with here. Soybeans were at 1131
Grain Markets Open In The Red
SPEAKER_00down 10. Corn down 9 at 413. And wheat was at 585 and a quarter down five and a quarter. Unfortunate to see that it's down there across the board. Maybe we'll see a bump sometime this week. Let's go ahead and quote livestock. We had a hog and pig report come out, and my hog friends are saying that it was relatively friendly and the expectations
Livestock Numbers And Price Moves
SPEAKER_00were fairly spot on. So the hog number was kind of unchanged there at 96.63 cents. Feeder cattle were at 239.70 down $3.60. Live cattle were at $2.46 down $1.15. Well, onto our weather discussion. Craig Solberg brings us our weather, and I always really like that 120-day chart that he has there. He's
Corn Belt Weather And Yield Risk
SPEAKER_00on part of our Nezvik family here and provides us with the best weather updates. The Northwest Corn Belt can see daily storms until Thursday this week into northwest Iowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota, about one to two inches there. Luckily, though, for the southeastern corn belt, we're gonna have a time to dry out here. Tommy told me that he drove from Valparaiso all the way down to Nashville this week, kind of getting the Indiana grain tour in. And he said, you know, rain makes grain, but if crops are underwater, our yields there are zero. So hopefully we have some time here for allow that moisture to absorb in the soil and the crop to get the benefit of that moisture. On to our next slide for the day. Our grain report is coming out tomorrow. And you know, whether you love them, hate them, don't pay attention to them, I think you probably should pay
Crop Report Timing And Why It Matters
SPEAKER_00attention to them because we always see big changes after these reports come out. I had a great talk with Tom Leffler on Friday about the percent changes that we can normally see at the end of the month when these things come out. And if you'd like to watch that video, we'd love to have you on the premium side. It's $25 a month or $250 annually. You get two months for free there. Get everything that you see there on the screen. By far my favorite and my family's favorite are the text updates. Regardless of what you're out doing in production agriculture, you get updates on big swings in the market or if a tweet comes out. We'd love to have you on the premium side. You find that at AgBull.com. The link will be down below. But like we said, that report comes out. It'll be interesting to see what happens there. We'll keep you updated before and after. Well, like I said at the beginning show, Iran's at it again. And it truly is amazing that at the end of the day on Friday, it's war games again and everyone's
Iran Headlines And Oil Market Volatility
SPEAKER_00bombing one another. Then right before the market comes, or right before the the market opens again, it's peace in the Middle East and Christmas in June. No one's bombing anybody. You have to pay attention to these sort of things when trying to trade oil and things, anything that passes through the Strait of Hormuz, a rising tide brings up all ships, but choppy waters make all markets somewhat volatile. So it'll be interesting to see what happens there in the coming weeks before the market closes and opens with regards to Iran and what they're doing with bombs and things like that. Well, that's all we have for slides for today. To keep you updated on the economic calendar, the export inspections comes out at 10 a.m.
Economic Calendar And Where To Follow
SPEAKER_00The crop progress report is at 3. It'll be interesting to see what that moisture has kind of done to the crop progress and see if it has any effect on that. We'll keep you updated there as well. If you'd like to get more ag squawk in your day, I highly encourage you to tune in this afternoon to Mr. Davis Michelson at 3 p.m. for Ag Squawk P.M.
