Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM. Jed Sidwell here live from Joliet, Illinois. Yesterday, Tommy covered for me, but I'm back in the saddle yet again today. Today, we're going to talk

Welcome And Today’s Game Plan

SPEAKER_00

about some beef grading stuff. And if you haven't been paying attention, there's a big report that comes out yet tomorrow on the grain side. We'll get to all of that here in a bit. Quoting the livestock market and where it closed yesterday, everything was just kind of a bit boring yesterday. Live cattle were up about a little over a buck and a half at $1.63

Livestock And Grain Market Quotes

at $226.90. Feeder cattle were down just a bit in the front months, $65 at $3.44 and a half. Lean hogs were up $1.45 at $883.68. I'm going to quote the grain market here for you live with our quotes from plus $500. T4 trading software is what we use from plus $500. They're a sponsor of the show. We use them every day to place our orders and quote the market. Corn September contract is at $4.37.5. Soybeans, same month or at $11.60. Wheat September is at 6 37 and a half. And I'll go ahead and throw crude oil in there. Why not? September contract crude oil is at 8220, down just a bit here in the early morning. The weather slides for today, man, it's hard to look at the weather just here recently. And I'm sure it is for a lot of you out there. It's either too wet or too dry, and we just don't have this Goldilocks scenario

Flooding And Heat Stress Outlook

that we need. Luckily, most of the crops seem to be holding in all right for now. But let's go ahead and see what Mr. Craig Solberg has to say, our in-house meteorologist. Ohio and Indiana are going to see some flooding, kind of widespread, but kind of local small storms have hit over the past 24 hours. It's put basically all of Ohio and much of Indiana under a flood watch. Then brutal, persistent, and constant heat keeps on hitting the southern plains, highs above 100, with some areas just kind of having a regular 105-degree temp. Man, that's tough on everything. Your car, your house, your livestock, your morale, your business. Say your prayers for your fo for the folks down there. Kind of boost morale. Report day tomorrow, the big one. Wednesday's August Waz Day is coming out tomorrow, and it's the first report where the USDA has to actually survey the crops or survey

Why Tomorrow’s WASDE Matters

SPEAKER_00

the producers on both corn and soybeans rather just hit than assuming what's out there. And so that's cool to see. Expect volume and volatility in the markets tomorrow. But like we like to talk about here, we like volume in the markets. We like liquid uh markets that we can get in and we can get out. If you ever hear horror stories, horror stories of people getting stuck in a market, it's because oftentimes the market didn't have enough volume to carry. So it's always great to have plenty of people. But stay informed as that report comes out tomorrow, because I'm sure there will be something to learn and about every commodity. On the livestock discussion for today, Nebraska cattle grading has blown through its normal seasonal low. Prime is down just a little bit, and choice

Nebraska Beef Grading Signals

is the lowest print so far of 2026. But look at Select there. It's that blue line at the bottom. And I've been talking recently about how we need to kind of boost up our select production so that way we don't give way to Argentina and Brazil and Australia. And even though it's kind of seasonally late, it looks like Select beef grading in Nebraska is kind of on the highs, which is interesting to see for the time of year as you compare it to other years. This is normally kind of the year we start to see a decline there. Maybe it's because of the heat, maybe it's because of this unpredictable market that we're in right now. But it's something to pay attention to. And obviously, just one state, but there's a lot of feed yards in Nebraska, so it's one of the key ones for sure. On the economic calendar for today, the ADP weekly employment change comes out as I am recording at 7.15 a.m. Central. Existing home sales comes out at 9.
